Passenger rail travel is a far bigger business in Europe than in America, and over 1 billion rail journeys are made every year. The busiest railway lines are the commuter lines around London - London has about 12 busy railway terminals. Major cities are connected by fast trains with maximum speeds of 125mph, and there are many smaller local lines. Freight trains are a smaller business, but their activity is growing and the West Coast Main Line (from London to Glasgow) is one of the busiest freight routes in Europe.
