Well, Tan Dun, who composed the soundtrack scores for "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon" and "Hero", composed the music for the Medal presentation ceremonies, but a man named Chen Qigang composed the music that is heard during the Opening and Closing ceremonies. I have been obsessed with finding the music that played during the opening ceremony since I watched it, but sadly have not been able to find it as of yet. I have only found out who composed the music but not where to download or purchase it. I really hope they release a CD with all of the wonderful music soon...i might explode if they don't. I go to this site to watch the opening ceremony and listen to the music as best I can (its hard when the commentators wont shut up!) --- http://www.nbcolympics.com/video/nbcencore/index,page=9.htmx --- go here and click on "Opening Ceremony Act I: Pageantry" to see the artistic portion of the Opening Ceremony.

In "The Giver," Larissa describes Roberto as being released by saying he had gone to Elsewhere. She explains that it is a special ceremony held for the elderly when they are released from the community. Larissa seems accepting and almost indifferent to the concept of release, viewing it as a natural part of life in the community.
