In order to become a truck driver, those wishing to become one must take classes. There are short semester-long classes that need to be taken to get a commercial drivers license to be able to drive a truck. A good working knowledge of the various parts of the United States on a map is also a plus.

The biggest thing you will need is a Commerical Driver's License (CDL). You will need to have a very clean driving record to obtain that. You will also need to pass the Federal Motor Carrier Saftety Regulations exam as well.

The requirements for becoming a truck driver vary by company. Most of them make you take a health test to make sure you do not have any sleeping problems that could cause you to fall asleep at the wheel. Others make sure you can see all the colors of street signs. So mark it out if you are color blind.
