According to the Code of Canon Law for the Catholic Church, sponsors must:

  1. be designated by the person to be baptized and/or confirmed (or the person's parents in the case of infant baptism)
  2. have the ability and intent to serve in this capacity
  3. be at least 16 years old unless the bishop or pastor has granted an exception
  4. be a practicing Catholic, confirmed and receiving Eucharist
  5. not be the parent of the person to be baptized and/or confirmed

The Code also specifies that there is to be one male or one female sponsor, or one of each.

A non-Catholic may serve with a Catholic who meets the above criteria as an additional witness.

Where is a Catholic school usually located?

I believe there is at least one catholic school per 2 public schools. This is just an assumption that I've made judging by my area. Since most Catholic schools are sponsored by a local Catholic parish, they are usually located near the church of the parish that sponsors them and usually bear the same name as the parish church.
