(In the US) it varies by state - you're either selected for jury service from a list of registered voters, or the the state's DMV files. Once you are called, if you are chosen to serve on a jury you will go through a processs called 'Voire Dire' where the attorneys for both sides will go over your infomration and question you in order to come to a decision as to whether they wish you to serve on the jury, or not. Usually, you must be able to read, write, and understand the ENGLISH language and not have any medical impairments that could prevent you from being seated for lengthy periods of time or a medical condition that might prevent you from being sequestered, if the need arose.
