Concerta is a brand-name for the drug methylphenidate. Methylphenidate is a central nervous stimulant; in most countries, methylphenidate is a controlled substance and carries penalties for obtaining or taking without a prescription from a licensed doctor.

Concerta can cause an allergic reaction in individuals, even if the past they have had no reactions: symptoms include hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, tongue, lips, or throat. In the event of an allergic reaction, seek medical help immediately.

Stop taking Concerta and consult your physician immediately if you have a serious side effect such as:

  • fast, pounding, or uneven heartbeat;
  • fainting, or feeling light-heated;
  • severe headache, blurred vision, trouble concentrating, chest pain, numbness, or seizure (signs of increased blood pressure)
  • easy bruising, or purple spots on the skin
  • shaking, restlessness, hallucinations, unusual behavior, or muscle twitches

Less serious side effects that have been reported include: headache or dizziness, sleep problems, dry mouth, sweating, mild skin rash, numbness, loss of appetite, and weight loss.

I have been on this combination for a year now (10 mg Lexapro, which I just upped to 20 mg) and 36 mg of Concerta. I can't see any large side effects to taking both together, except perhaps excess sweating. Take Concerta in the morning only, especially if you have trouble falling asleep at night.

its concerta... and not really because i took it for a while... mostly mood swings and tiredness...

I have been on strattera for a while and the only side effects I have experienced are minor nausea and a few headaches. I previously tried concerta and methalyn and those had a lot more side effects- which is why i changed to nonstimulant. I am happy with strattera and it's minor side effects.

i would not advise taking any concerta while taking lexapro. I am currently taking lexapro and have taken concerta about 7 times. Each time i took concerta i would hear many scary voices in my head. i looked up the psycotic effects of concerta and they said that a side effect of concerta is hearing voices if you are on an antidepressant

Answer: Concerta and Adderall aren't very much different at all, except Adderall is more effective and Concerta has less side effects. They both are dopamine reuptake inhibitors. Adderal just seems to be more potent. Concerta is less addictive as well. hope this helps, Megan.******

concerta does not realy have any side effects,but when i changed my medication i felt anxious for 2 days but alot better than my first medication RITALIN LA it made me fell sad and i had mood swings for 2 weeks. adhd is hard to live with i cant pay attention

User Avatar

That depends on what you mean by "better." Concerta has less side effects and is generally safer, but Adderall is way more intense.

Yes it does, I am 19 and I have been taking concerta since I was about 13. It makes it harder to get and keep an erection. Also, now that I have been taking it for awhile, when I forget to take it I get uncontrollable erections. It is probably the main reason I got through school but It left me with a lot of psychological effects.

Yes. I've been on Concerta for about a month now and my doctor prescribed me with hydrocodone/acetaminophen for pain caused by removal of my wisdom teeth knowing that I was on it. I haven't had any unusual side effects. Just a little tired and light headed.

St. John's wort not only can cause a sunlight sensitivity but should also not be used in children under the age of 12. Additionally it's contraindicated in conjugation with concerta. It can actually worsen ADHD if taken with concerta. Other side effects are still unknown and it is suggested to avoid consuming both.

Concerta should begin working in 30 minutes, but up to an hour if you ate before taking the capsule.

If you are using Prozac and Strattera together, you need to talk to your doctor, as this combination can cause serious side-effects. Read your Patient Insert that came with your Straterra, it covers the use of Prozac and Straterra together. Hope that helps. Concerta is being passed around my school. . .most people think that if you take it you will be hyper and more alert. . .this may be the case in some people. . .however for some people side effects are great and horrible. . .I took 2 Concerta and got light-headed first, then the dizzyness came and the stomach aches. . .dry throat but too much saliva in your mouth. . .uncontrolable shaking and definite insomnia. . .loss of appitie and hallucinations. . .i am not a trained physician. . .but because of my size the side effects were very different that they are for most. . .the other 2 that took it with me were perfectly fine, yet another person that took the same amount claims his heart stopped. . .i would NOT recomend using this drug. . .its side effects SUCK

The exact amount of Concerta, a prescription drug given to people with ADHD is not known, so if you experience any side effects such as joint pain, rapid heartbeat, blurred vision, buzzing in the ears, cheat pain etc., you should contact your doctor immediately.

Concerta and Vyvanse are both extended-release central nervous system stimulants. Combining stimulants can increase the risk of cardiac events, cause high blood pressure, and other life-threatening side effects. Only take this combination if your doctor has prescribed both medications to you.

all you need for adhd is concerta, but concerta can make you jittery and give you an all around weird jumpy feeling like as if you were smoking crack or speed. so it wont help your adhd any better but the vicodan might calm you down if you expience those effects. if its those "speedy" effects of concerta that bother you consider switching to adderall rather than methyphenidate , i have found concerta to make you more jittery and stuff than adderall . as for the safety of this mixture dont quote me on this but if you keep your does'es low you'll be fine

my son is 10 years old and was taking concerta, sttratera, and risperdal. Just recently we replace risperdal for abilify and is working well so far. abilify has less side effects than other antipsychotic medications. My son is taking it for his tantrums and good so far.
