If the transmission is slipping or shifting badly it COULD be a sign of a valve body failure.
If the transmission will not engage reverse or any of the forward gears, it COULD be a sign of a valve body failure.
With tools

Replace the valve cover gasket.

You have to pull the cam to change the valve disks. The only practical way to do that is to remove the head.
There is a cap under the hood on the valve cover that says ADD OIL HERE
Attached to the head, on the transmission end. It's a round thing with a few electrical connections.

Its located on top of the valve cover. Just grab hold of it and gently pull it out of the gromet its in, then pull the small rubber hose off and replace the PVC itself and push it back in from where it came.
