The main differences are: - a Masjed does not have any images of people, animals, or deities while a Church will usually have an image of Christ (or even saints if the Church is Catholic or Orthodox) - if a Masjed has decorated windows they are usually geometrical designs or sayings while in a Church windows may be decorated with images of Christ, Mary or saints. - in a Masjed, worshippers generally sit on the carpet, rather than on chairs (although there are usually a few chairs for those who can't pray while standing or follow praying steps) while a Church usually has seats (called pews) for everyone. - in a Masjed the focal point is where the Qur'an will be read while in a Church the focal point is usually the altar/communion table.

Mosques are very plainly decorated to avoid idolitary, some Protestant churches are distinctly bare for a similar reason. However Catholic and Orthodox churches are usually very highly decorated. In basic form there are a few similarities. There is a large are for the congregation which faces the front. The front is usually reserved for imams or priests and is where they peach from (in the orthodox church the front area is cut of from the nave by a decorated barrier). The congregation will all face the same way (except in post-Vatican 2 Catholic churches which have a rounder shape) (In Orthodox churches and Mosques there are not usually any seats, people stand or kneel)

Both will have a sanctuary, a room large enough to hold the congregation during a service. Both typically have chairs or pews for the congregation, because it is normal to sit down during large parts of a long service, standing only for certain prayers and hymns. Services in both churches and synagogues involve prayer, song, scripture readings and teaching. Candles are a traditional feature of evening services in both settings.
