Catholics believe their faith started when Jesus appointed Peter, the head of his church. This the basis of the Pope.

Baptists believe this was figurative and his church is composed of anybody who believes in Jesus

Catholics believe in a 3 legged basis to faith. 1 God, 2 Scripture 3 Sacred Tradition. The Catholic church decided what went into the bible so they have beliefs which predate the creation of the bible therefore they have documents and scrolls showing what early christians believed BEFORE 325AD when the Catholic council of Trent decided on what was considered "holy scripture" and what wasn't

Baptists believe in "sole scriptura" or Bible only, that the bible alone is sufficient for ALL teaching.

Catholics believe that Jesus was speaking literally when he said "I am the bread of life" and that "do this in rememberance of me" does not mean that communion is symbolic.

Baptists believe communion is symbolic but still important as a way to mediate or reflect on God.

Catholics believe that Jesus gave the disciples the ability to forgive people's sins and that God wants us to confess our sins to each other as well as him. The ability for the disciples to forgive did not just end with them. You should always confess to God and to the person you wronged but if you didn't sin against another person, then you should confess those sins to a priest, in addition to God.

Baptists believe in confessing to God and to the person you wronged, if your sin didn't wrong anyone else..then you just confess to God.

Catholics believe we are saved at the end of our life thru "grace working thru love" - meaning that Jesus's grace saves us..but the correct response to his grace is to strive each and everyday to do God's work here on earth. We are not saved by our works, but a faith without works is empty..so it takes both, Works are the response,.Salvation is not a one time act...it something that is continous and is not known until God judges you,

Baptists believe that one is saved by "faith alone" or sole fide, Jesus's grace is completely sufficient, no need to do anything. Baptists talk about being saved (past tense) on a certain date.

Catholics believe that the Pope has the authority, granted by Jesus to settle important matters of the faith which pertain to salvation. These "ex-cathedra" statements are rare and may only come once or twice a century. When they do, however, they are final and infallible. God would not appoint a head of his church and then allow him to make 'ex-cathedra' (from the chair) statements about grave matters and lead God's people astray...therefore, to keep the faithful on the right path...these special statements must be binding or infallible. Most Popes never make ex-cathedra pronouncements. They are VERY rare.

Baptists believe that no man has authority and everyone has the duty/obligation to decide for themselves. Even if that means everyone splinters off and has their own opinions. Reading the bible is the ONLY authority (recall that the Catholic church created the bible)

Both branches believe in a Divine Trinity.

Both believe in Divine Revelation through the Scriptures.

Both believe in the necessity of Baptism, the necessity of Confession, and the importance of avoiding sin.

Both celebrate devotions - studies of and prayers and meditations on the lives of the saints.

Baptists do not hold clergy to be celibate, and do not believe in the mediation of a priest in Confession (ie, confess only to God directly).

Catholics accept confession to God directly and confession with the mediation of a priest.

Baptists generally require a Proclamation of Faith (Altar Call) before Baptism, while Catholics see Baptism as pure Grace that cannot be changed regardless of one's actions, and accept that the Proclamation of Faith can come later if one is baptized as an infant.

Baptists see the Lord's Supper as purely symbolic. Catholics see the Eucharist as both symbol and reality (that Christ is Present in the Eucharist, not just symbolized by it).

Baptists generally end their list of saints with those mentioned in the New Testament, and look to no further revelation. Catholics look to the history of the Church for examples of saintly men and women, and to the Doctors and Fathers of the Church for interpretation of Scripture.

Baptists seek salvation through Faith alone, by Grace. Catholics seek salvation through Grace alone, by Faith. The difference here is moot.

Baptists see salvation by works as an incorrect interpretation of Scripture. Catholics see salvation by a Grace that compels one to do good works in imitation of Christ. Thus Baptists misunderstand Catholics, often deeply.

In some regions, there is great animosity between Catholics and Baptists. In Oklahoma, for instance, there is a community where the Baptists have taken court action to demand that Catholics vacate land within 10 miles of the Baptist Church. In other regions, we all get along fine and agree to disagree, holding Christ in common.

1. Both believe in the Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit

2. Both believe that Jesus was fully God and fully man.

3. Both believe that good works are necessary for a Christian.(although for different reasons)

4. Both believe in a literal Heaven and a literal Hell

5. Both believe demons and devils are real

6. Both believe God is all knowing and all powerful, and His name is not allah, or vishnu, or some other such.

7. Both believe that God IS love, yet He still does have a temper.

Trinity

Baptists and Catholics share a belief in the historic Christian doctrine of the Trinity, which says that God is three in one and one in three: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Each member of the Trinity has equal power and honor, and none is any more or less God than any other.

Birth, Life, Death and Resurrection of Christ

Christians in both Baptist and Roman Catholic churches describe Jesus as the divine Son of God in human flesh, born to the Virgin Mary, who died on the cross to redeem the world and who rose again from the dead. For both Baptists and Catholics, God's plan to save the world lies in these events.

Reliability of the Bible

Although Catholics and Baptists disagree about how exactly the authority of the Bible compares to the authority of other sources, such as the pope, both believe that God inspired the writers of Scripture and both call the Bible the word of God. They both believe they can trust the Bible and that it speaks truthfully when it records prophecy, history and doctrine.

Ethics

Baptists and Catholics share similar views on moral issues, such as the value of the Ten Commandments, the belief in marriage between a man and a woman as the only proper context for sexual intimacy and the necessity of caring for the poor and vulnerable. They both look to the teachings and parables of Jesus for guidance on how to lead moral lives.

Worship

Catholics and Baptists both have services consisting of worship to God in hymns and songs, prayer, preaching and Bible readings. Although the details of services differ vastly, Christians in both churches meet every Sunday to bring glory to Jesus Christ in their worship. Both Catholics and Baptists traditionally have Sunday schools to teach children.

Bread and Wine

Catholics and Baptists have very different interpretations of the Lord's Supper, but they both celebrate it by eating bread and drinking wine or Grape Juice. In doing this, they follow Jesus' actions on the night before his crucifixion.

Ordained Leaders

Catholics and Baptists have leaders that must go through special training that qualifies them to lead a Christian congregation. Although a Baptist pastor's role differs greatly from that of a Roman Catholic priest, they both have ordained status and consider themselves called by God as shepherds to God's flock.

What are the similarities between Catholic and Protestant beliefs?

Both Catholics and Prrotestants believe in the Trinity. They both believe that Jesus is the God the Son, and that he died for sins. They both believe in heaven and hell. The Catholic Church has the whole truth because the pope is infallible when teaching on matters of Faith and Morals, it's teachings have been revealed by God himself, not personal interpretation of a bible. (Protestants just broke off from the true Church because they thought it was too difficult to follow Christ's teachings)

What are Three similarities between Anglican and Methodist church?

There are many similarities between Catholic Churches and Church of England churches for the simple reason that all the original Church of England churches were Catholic Churches before they were stolen by King Henry VIII and appropriated for his new "church". They all contain an altar situated in a sanctuary, and a place for the people (called the nave). Many of them still contain a choir between the nave and the altar.
