There are no social moral or aesthetic objections for breastfeeding in public just as there are none of these issues that arise for any one eating in public. AS a matter of fact if any one person that had an idea of an objection towards the aesthetics of breastfeeding in public should pop down to there nearest fast food outlet and find many adults to provide them with much more fuel for "objections". A breastfeeding baby is a quiet, tidy little eater who produces a minimal amount of waste. On the whole they are very discreet and the majority of the time most people are unaware of a feed when it occurs. The only social implications evident are positive ones. As the more in the public eye that breastfeeding becomes the more popular an option it will be and this can only lead to an improvement in the health of society, as the evidence for the health benefits of breastfeeding are well documented. As regards the moral objections for breastfeeding in public i would argue that it is morally wrong to consider the breasts as purely an object for sexual gratification and therefore those who find the act of breastfeeding in public as offensive are morally poorly informed. Breastfeeding is nothing less than a wonderful, caring act that provides gold standard nutrition and a bond between mother and baby that will promote a positive effect on mental heath for both mother and infant. Therefore i would advise as a mother of three, a nurse and a midwife, if any person had any objections to a woman breastfeeding in public they may want to allow themselves to become better informed as it is only through true ignorance that a person could do anything other than congratulate a woman for choosing what society, medical professionals and nature has deemed the best way to care for her infant.

In most of the US there are few public places where it would be illegal to breast feed. However, many businesses do not understand these legalities and have the backward idea that somehow breast feeding is something to be hidden. It is right and proper for a nursing mother to feed her child whenever the need presents itself. Just like she would give a baby a bottle, she should be just as welcomed to nurse her baby. Any judgments about modesty should be kept to oneself. The nursing mother is the only person who has the right to decide how to care for the feeding of her child.
Public breastfeeding is against the law in Saudi Arabia and it is also illegal in certain states in the United States. Almost all other countries allow it freely.
Breast feeding is legally allowed any place a woman may be when her infant is hungry. Some businesses and some officials in charge of public places may feel they can ask women to not breastfeed in their establishment of business or the public location that they control, but legally they cannot prevent the woman from breastfeeding her child. Some cities and some states have actually passed recent laws emphasizing that breastfeeding is legal in their city or state, but laws already protect the mother anywhere in the United States. Ken L.
