I don't know if 'social responsibility' is the term to use here, because it usually refers to business practices that ensure they don't harm local communities.

Business-wise, you should always live up to your side of the bargain and ensure that their practices do not put their local communities at risk. You should not be doing business with anyone who builds his profits from exploiting locals or running sweatshops, for instance.

If you're talking about maintaining a relationship, you're the one with the bargaining chip since you buy from the supplier and he wants your revenue. But it really helps to be fair and friendly so doing business is so much easier. Don't give them unreasonable terms and deadlines, or take advantage of your upper hand to make life hard for them. Or once they have others to sell to, they'll ditch you and then you need the trouble to find a new supplier.
