I was never a great fan of Classical Music or anything but I thought the most beautiful piece was the moonlight sonata.
I guess the greatest achievements would be The Symphony No. 9 in D minor,

The maddest thing about it I guess was the fact that he was completely deaf before he composed and wrote his greatest masterpiece.

Haydn did not teach Beethoven how to play an instrument, but he did give Beethoven lessons in musical composition. Beethoven struggled with Haydn as a teacher, and the two did not really get along.
