I would say no. Kt17** had no filter. Kolher gave the the grace to the owner to change oil on a hourly usage plan. It was one of there early demise isuses. The 317 was a great tractor but over rpm of the engine made for blown seales and oil useage. If it still runs well just stay on the 300 hour drain and fill time

The ammeter on the JD 317 picks up the electric field to operate from the red wire connected between the circuit breaker and the ignition switch. It simply snaps into a grove on the back side of the ammeter. It does not take much to pull it free from the meter, but it is easy to fix. If it works backwards after snapping it in place, you need to pull it out and re-insert it the other way (reverse direction).
