Around the brake pedal (front and back) are two switches, one to cancel cruise control (if your vehicle is so equipped) and another to lit the stop lamps whenever you press on the brake pedal. If you look down on it and depress the pedal, you'll see which one is pressed and is being released. Normally, the brake pedal switch is released (making a complete electrical connection and lights the stop lamps) whenever you press the pedal. The stop lamp stays lit whenever the switch is stuck (worn spring, corroded connections, broken push pin, etc.). If you can't identify which one is for cruise control and which one is for the brake, just go to a Nissan dealer and get a new stop lamp switch (for the 2000-2004 Nissan Frontier V6, it is part number 25320-75A0E) for about $15. You can then match it with the same switch mounted on your vehicle. They are normally easy to replace with only a wire connector to disconnect and a nut to loosen in order to remove and replace it.
