TAKING ANY STEPS WITHOUT PROPER TRAINING CAN DO MORE HARM THAN GOOD.

CALL EMS

TAKE A FIRST AID/CPR CLASS

1. ask the person if they are choking, if they can verbally answer you they are not. If the person has something in their airway but can still cough, encourage them to cough, DO NOT GIVE THEM ANYTHING TO DRINK.

2.Identify yourself and ask them if you can help.

3. have someone call for EMS

4. Have them place their arms across their chest.

5. place your non dominant hand under their crossed arms while standing to the side, have them bend forward slightly and with the heel of your dominant hand strike them between the shoulder blades. This is called a back blow. Repeat this 5 times or until object is dislodged or they become unconscious.

6. After giving Back blows stand behind them, find their belly button move about two inches up and place your fist there, cover your fist with the other hand and give 5 hard thrusts in an upward direction. if the person is obese or obviously pregnant move up to the sternum or breast bone.

7. Repeat these two actions until person becomes unconscious, EMS arrives, or object is dislodged.
