I would say that the first main event was when he burned the hut and tried to swim away because as he was burning the hut he was remembering all the awful things that his father and mother had done.
the second main event was the bear attack, obviously, because it changed his perspective on life, and he then realized he wanted to survive so that's the turning point in this book, though some would argue that the turning point was shortly after when he felt sympathy for the mother bird and her babies, so I'm going to say that was the third.
When he allowed himself to forget judgment and dance the dance of the whale, or the wolf was a main event.
When he threw away the lock of bear fur.
When he forgave his mother.
When he allowed Peter to just beat him and when he didn't fight back.
When he invited Peter to live on the island because he had heard peter was attempting suicide and he wanted to help.
When he began his morning rituals, trying to become invisible and clear his mind, when he rolled his anger away with the ancestor rock..
and in the end when he danced the anger dance..
Cole Matthews
In my eyes, it would be when he got attacked by the Spirit Bear. it was the turning point in his attitude and his anger
