There are no term limits for judges and justices in the federal Judicial Branch. According to Article III, Section I, of the Constitution, they hold their offices "during good behavior," meaning for life, as long as they don't commit an impeachable offense. Qualifying infractions are defined in Article II, Section 4, as "treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors."

The Judicial Branch consists only of the following courts:

  • US District Courts
  • US Court of International Trade
  • US Court of Appeals Circuit Courts
  • Supreme Court of the United States
