It's usually the environment they have grown up in. They have had one or both parents abusive towards them. There is a low percentage that just has an ugly disposition no matter how they have been brought up. Either way, these people need help and until they do they will never have a successful relationship. Abuse is a serious offence and not taken lightly. Poverty can make some people turn sour against the world and while some over-come the poverty and work hard or make breaks for themselves, others will either join gangs, deal drugs, steal or just generally get into trouble.

∙ 16y agoSadly, most abusive behavior is a learned behavior. We tend to recreate in our relationships the one that we seen between our parents. People also abuse when they are under the influence, or addicted to, alcohol or drugs. Another reason people abuse is because they have never learned how to deal with their emotions in a positive manner. They feel fear, frustration, or anger and automatically lash out.

∙ 14y agoI think people become abusive for a number of reasons. They were brought up in an abusive environment. They are very jealous and/or insecure. They have some sort of substance abuse problem; drugs or alcohol or both. They feel inferior to their partner. They blame others for their problems; for example, being laid off or fired from their job.

∙ 13y agoBad past incidents usually being such instances up...like me i had a "run in" and a summer camp back in '78. My wife hasent had it easy because of that it just messes with you nocturnal lobe and causes damage for everyone.

∙ 8y agoPeople have been known to abuse others due to self-loathing reasons. The abusers are not happy with themselves, or they experience trauma they went through themselves. This is a complicated and complex problem that usually results in needing professional therapy, medication, or more.
