The treatment for shingles is usually dependent on how severe the case actually is. For minor cases, the doctor usually will just prescribe some antibiotics and some pain medication. For more severe cases, doctors may prescribe stronger medicines, such as steroids, to help relieve the outbreak.

There is one treatment: Anti-virus prescriptions. Pain relievers can help with the intense discomfort of shingles.

The very best 'treatment' is to get a shingles vaccine BEFORE you come down with shingles.

As there is no actual cure for shingles the treatments can vary. Antiviral medications can help to speed up recovery from shingles as well as reducing pain. Over the counter pain relief such as aspirin and ibuprofen can help reduce the pain during a shingles attack. As well as antibiotic creams that can be applied directly to the skin to help reduce possible infections of the blisters.

Shingles come from the same virus as chickenpox and it is contagious to those who are not immune from chickenpox. Shingles is not passed to a non immune person, but the virus chickenpox is. The most common treatments are anti itch creams and antiviral medications. Shingles are very painful.

Is getting rest along with medication an effective method to treat shingles?

You will feel ill when you have shingles - so getting rest is very important. You cannot "treat" shingles with rest though - but your symptoms will be less if you can rest. shingles is a form of chicken pox in that its caused by same virus. A healthy diet to boost the immune system is advisable, fruit and vegetables. kiwis are fullof vitamin C providing twice as much as an orange. Shingles will run their course and will make you tired. Yes it is wise to rest as well as ensure you eat a healthy diet. Continue to see your GP so the situation can be monitored
