  • Easy Transfer is a tool designed for home users, retail and SOHO users.
  • USMT is a tool designed to migrate hundreds of PCs in large Enterprise deployments.

More specifically :

Difference 1 :

With Easy Transfer, a wizard let you select the particular items on the source PC that you want to migrate.

This cannot be done with USMT, where you must create "migration rules" in XML in advance to specify what to export from the source computers.

Difference 2 :

Easy Transfer can migrate to a destination PC which is directly connected over an "Easy Transfer USB Cable" or an Ethernet connection.

This cannot be done with USMT, which is designed to use intermediary storage, either a network share or an external USB flash drive or disk.
