The two basic ways to catergorize characters are by indirect and direct characterization.Direct characterization is when the author tells the reader directly, in the narrator's voice what a haracter is bout. Indirect characterization is when the reader must infer what a character is like instead of being told directly. This happens through clues in the story....I hope that was helpful. (:
