Two of the eleven known subspecies of leopard cat are listed as endangered: The Iriomote cat (Prionailurus bengalensis iriomotensis), found only on the Japanese island of Iriomote, and the Indian leopard cat (Prionailurus bengalensis bengalensis), found in India, Bangladesh, Yunnan, and throughout the southeastern Asian mainland. There are believed to be less than 100 Iriomote cats left in the wild. Indian leopard cat population estimates are currently unavailable.

I used this for a project I am doing on the Asian Leopard Cat (I am only 13) Cause for it being endangered The main cause of it being endangered is people hunting for its fur. Hunting is now banned in many countries, and to make sure wild populations are being kept safe, captive breeding programs have been developed for some island populations. Fairly successful in the wild because of their ability to adapt, leopard cats are, however, hunted for the fur trade, and in some areas are taken for food. Japan is the major cat fur consumer in Asia, and leopard cat skins are their first choice, importing as many as 50,000 skins per year. Since 1993, the government has allotted no export permits, but there were still 80,000 to 150,000 skins exported to Russia.
A leopard is sometimes called a "panther" but its usually black leopards are called panthers. A "panther" or black leopard and a ordinary coloured leopard are the same species but black panther/black leopard have more melanin so they are much much darker but in good light the spots are still visible. AnswerAlso Known as ingwe, or chui depending on where in Africa you are. they can also be called panthers which is just the other name for a leopard and jaguar
Mainly birds, rodents, and reptiles and other small animals.
There is probably 10% of home cats in the wild and I think the most endangered is the lynx. Additional Info: The US Fish and Wildlife Service show on the Endangered Species List the, Andean Mountain Cat, Asian Golden Cat (Temmnick's), Black-footed Cat, Flat-headed Cat, Iriomote Cat, Leopard Cat, Marbled Cat, Pakistan Sand Cat, Oncilla, Snow Leopard, Clouded Leopard, Spanish Lynx, Canada Lynx, Asiatic Lion, Leopard, and the Cheetah. The IUCN Red List has many more listed, if you would like more details see sites listed. The IUCN has a listing for wild cats "Felis silvestris", so they are being studied, but they aren't considered endangered now. The population is breeding out side their range with domestic breeds, therefore there is some concern about the "pure" wild cat. But as of 2008 they were ranked as "least concern", but the research indicates that there is a good chance of re-evaluation to threatened.
The Bengal Cat is a breed of domestic cat derived from the wild Asian Leopard Cat (Prionailurus bengalensis) found in Southeast Asia.
