The Sonoran and Chihuahuan deserts qualify as such.
You should know however, that these deserts don't take up most of Mexico: the amount of Mexican territory covered by scrub forests and deserts amounts for 29% of Mexico's total land area.
The biome that covers most of Mexico is paradoxically, forests of many types, including boreal, temperate and subtropical forests, as well as tropical rain-forest, covering 34% of Mexico's territory.
I'm not completely positive, but I think it goes like this: Chihuahuas originated in Mexico (most people say this) mainly in the deserts. The deserts get really dark at night, and so, paired with their large ears for hearing, their large eyes take in more light and help to see (and eyes hear very very well) predators and enemies and possibly a late night snack (lol) in the dark better. I personally have no idea if this is correct because I don't even own a Chihuahua, but I've researched a lot about them, but I haven't researched why their eyes are large. This is just a theory, but I hope I helped you :)
Deserts cover about 33% of the land on earth.
No. Most rail lines in Mexico are used for cargo movement (no passengers).
Deserts are only dangerous to people who are unfamiliar with safety precautions they must observe or for people with no common sense. The most common mistake made by some people is to take insufficient drinking water with them.

If Mexico hadn't been invaded by the U.S., it would have twice its size, as it would include present-day Mexico, as well as the whole states of California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas, and parts of Wyoming, Colorado, Oklahoma and Kansas.
