There is Jazz Bass and Classical Bass. Jazz Bass is characterised by more slappy bass (pizzicato), walking bass, and swung rhythm's, Classical Bass is characterized more by bowing (arco). Bassists in general, for example, don't use the 3rd finger until after the octave harmonic point. The bow holds are slightly different as well. You also have to stretch further to get the same intervals between notes on the Double Bass.
