Generally there are 3 types of appliances used:

1) Fixed appliance - bands and brackets are temporarily fixed to the teeth

2) Removable appliance - appliance an be removed from the mouth for cleaning

3) Functional appliance - this help to modify the growth of jaws when the body is growing. It can be fixed or removable.
