Straightening Teeth

Teeth-straightening is done through a number of techniques. Dentists often require the patient to wear braces to re-align the position of the tooth. Tooth-reshaping is also performed on mild cases, while implants are installed in extreme cases.

How long do braces have to stay on and how much do they usually cost and what color of bands are available?

Braces

The length of time you have to have braces on depends on what needs to be done to your teeth. The average is about 2 years, I'd say. The cost varies from office to office and probably state to state. And it also depends on what you need. But average is probably about 3 to 5 thousand dollars. Some insurances will pay for a part of it. Most won't.

Most offices have lots and lots of colors. Clear, grey, white, many shades of red, yellow, blue, orange, red, purple, green, etc. They have some with a bit of sparkles in them. Shades of brown. Probably black. Every office will have a little bit different variety, but they all have lots of colors.

More input from FAQ Farmers:

  • Braces have to stay on for usually 2 years, 1 minimum. It all depends on how your teeth are aligned. The worse the teeth are, the longer the braces will have to stay on. Sometimes it also depends on whether you listen to your orthodontist because they're usually the ones who advises you to help you towards your goal with your teeth. Braces usually cost 5,000 to 7,000 dollars. The bands are usually available in a variety of colors such as the colors of the rainbow, gray, black, brown, white, tooth-colored, clear, and even sparkly, metallic, and glow-in-the-dark bands.

Colored braces are a cool new trend but, they make you need braces a lot longer.

Cost for everything (office visits, retainer, lab stuff, etc.) could be nearly 10k all in. I always found that grey bands made the braces way less noticeable. You would think the white ones would be best, but they made it look like you had plaque all over your teeth.

If you or your parents decide that you need braces, you're bound to have pain. I should know, I have had them for going on 3 months now. You DO NOT want to skip an appointment, that just makes the treatment longer. Also, go to www.archwired.com, it will tell you exactly what is going to happen- when you get your braces on for the first time, wire changing, and many other useful things. If you have bad eyeteeth (like I do), then you'll have to have rubber bands to pull them down. Just a little tip: they HURT! You can't eat with rubber bands in. Also, rubber bands can only be used once. They have to be changed at least once a day. And actually, colored braces are the same price as the other kind, and they DON'T make you need braces longer.

my braces cost $5850 and i have a very minor case..

In the UK braces are free on the NHS. At my orthodentist their a a large variety of colours; browns, whites, blacks, greys all the way to neons. If you don't like these colours, then you can always change them the next time you get them tightened. I've had my braces tightened three times now and I've just had a new, thicker wire placed on. I was told by a friend that once you get the first thick wire on it's about 6-8 months until you get your braces off.

Lolli92:

I live in the UK and to go private you have to pay about four thousand pounds for your regular train-tracks, if you like. Or you can go on the waiting list for the NHS, which I did, but that meant I couldn't get colours put in. But at some orthodontists they will do colours for you. Getting colours doesn't slow down the process. Braces really stay on depending on the case and how well you care for them. x

If your tooth is pushed back do you need braces?

it really depends, on how old you are, when the tooth gets pushes back. If you are a child or adolescent it is likely that the tooth will probably mend iself within a matter of years. However if you are a young adult, or just an adult you could have dental treatment to get it sorted if the dentist thinks it is necessary.

What are the causes of diastema?

Diastema is a space between two permanent teeth, typically the upper central incisors (front teeth).

Baby teeth have gaps called primate spaces. These are normal and necessary to allow enough room for the permanent teeth to come in.

The most common cause of diastema in adult teeth is malocclusion, or poor fit between the teeth of the upper and lower jaws. This usually can be corrected with orthodontics.

Another common cause of diastema is a short labial frenum. The labial frenum is found at the mid line inside the upper lip, and it is a flap of mucosa and connective tissue that holds the upper lip close to the teeth. If this tissue is short and too tight, it can result in the diastema. This problem can usually be corrected with a minor surgical procedure called a labial frenectomy. This is sometimes done in conjunction with orthodontics to move the teeth together.

Is teeth straightening expensive?

Unfortunately, yes. Here are the average cost for different types of orthodontic appliances.

  • Braces- On average braces cost anywhere from $5000-$7000. If you can't afford braces, don't think for one second that you can't have perfect teeth! If your family makes less that $10,000 per person annually than you can qualify for financial aid!
  • Lingual Braces- Lingual braces cost an average of $1000-$2500 more than regular braces.
  • Invisalign- Usually Invasalign cost about $3500-$5000 based on the severity of the problem.
  • Gold Braces- Yes, they are made of real 24k gold and are only for people with allergies to specific metals. They do cost more than regular metal braces, well, because they are gold!
  • Retainers- Retainers are the cheapest, because they don't do as much work. You cannot supplement braces for retainers as they don't work as well. On average they cost approximately $250.

What options does a 17-year-old with huge front teeth and a big gap between them have?

Your option would be to go to a dental surgeon to have then put some braces on. They do have braces that you can't see.

I don't know what others think, but I think they are quiet fashionable, atleast at the time I had them on which was about 4-5 years ago when I was 14 or 15. I loved my braces. And my cousin got her braces done at 19 so I don't know what you are worried about.

I'm going through that same problem and i think it doent matter your age.

I am 18 years old and just resently closed my gap using www.gapinmyteeth.com. You wear what looks like a small rubber band around your front teeth. The band is streached out so it pulls on your teeth. I had a large gap and it closed after about a month.

I had 3 gaps between my front teeth and I used teeth makeover bands and they've closed up. My friend used them too, but when he leaves the bands off for a couple of weeks, the teeth start to gap again. I think it's worth it, though. I don't mind putting them back on at night to not have to spend thousands of dollars to get the gap fixed permanently. It's not even really permanent, the veneers come out in like 7 years anyway. anyway, the address is teethmakeover.com if you wanna go see 'em.. I like them better than teeth effect, teeth effect took -forever- to ship my bands

My son used these bands and then needed an operation to remove 2 bands that had gone up under his gums, restricting the blood and effecively killing the tooth root , it was very painfull and nobody knew what was happening for weeks, they thought it was just general gum issues, he is lucky to have kept his front teeth but 4 years later still has major probelms with his gums and needs another operation to remove some gum, as your gum doesn't regrow once damaged, he may lose his teeth, he is only 19years old. THESE BANDS ARE NOT SAFE. we did this through our orthodontist, but will be pursuing a complaint procedure.

How do you fix gaps between your front teeth and what is an approximate cost for it?

Most likely you'll need braces to close the gaps. But it's possible they could be fixed with tooth colored fillings or a veneers/crowns. You'll have to go to an orthodontist or general dentist and see what is best for your teeth and your finances. Cost can very greatly depending on the state and doctor you go to.

Is it best to brush teeth before using mouthwash?

Mouthwash is not a substitute for tooth brushing. Everyone should brush his or her teeth at least twice daily, and floss once daily. This is the minimum frequency necessary to prevent plaque build-up, and the cavities that can result. Mouthwash is used, not to prevent cavities, but to prevent bad breath. Since you're going to brush and floss, and you want to use mouthwash, it makes more sense to use the mouthwash after brushing and flossing, rather than before, since brushing and flossing stirs up bacteria and other malodorous debris.

Is there an inexpensive fast way to close the gap between your two front teeth?

Depending on the size of the gap between the teeth, sometimes just filling them in is possible. Talk to your local dentist to see if they can do it without it looking too fake. We can usually use the same filling material (matched perfectly to the color of your teeth) fill in the gap at minimal cost compared to crowns or veneers. The cost for these fillings are probably between $75-$250 depending on whether or not you live in a big city. Go to www.teethgap.com and try teeth effect bands. Don't worry it is cheap. I use to have a 3mm gap in my teeth and now it is closed. I highly recommend you try it out.

Is mouthwash important for your teeth?

This is what the ADA says: While some study results indicate the use of a mouth rinse can be as effective as flossing for reducing plaque between the teeth, the American Dental Association (ADA) recommends brushing twice a day and cleaning between the teeth with floss or interdental cleaners once each day to remove plaque from all tooth surfaces. Plaque is responsible for both tooth decay and gum disease. Regarding the studies, the authors concluded that in patients with mild to moderate gingivitis (early gum disease), rinsing twice a day with the antiseptic mouth rinse was as effective as flossing for reducing plaque and gingivitis between the teeth. The studies did not examine whether the mouth rinse had the same effect as floss on reducing tooth decay or periodontitis (advanced gum disease).

How long does it usually take for a gap to close with braces?

Well, by now I suspect you know the answer to your question=) But for others who are curious, it can take as little as a few weeks for a gap to close, depending on how wide it is.

Forget, closing a gap using braces! I closed my gap for only $16.95 using teeth effect bands from www.teethgap.com. I saved so much money.
