A coupe is the private cabin available in 1AC and First Class coaches of trains in Indian Railways. They are available in overnight trains and long-distance trains connecting metropolitan cities. 1AC coaches are AC coaches with coupes. First Class coaches are Non-AC coaches with coupes, however these First Class coaches are being phased out these days. Most of the coupes have berth capacity of 4; and at least one private coupe with 2 berth capacity. If you are trying to book private coupes (2 berth) online, note that, it cannot be confirmed until chart preparation. 2-berth coupes are allotted only to couples at the time of chart preparation. 1AC ticket prices are comparable to flight ticket charge. So they are not very popular. So, most of the trains do not have these coaches attached. Trains that have them usually share the coach space with 2AC berths. Hope this information is helpful!
