1. Chinchillas have fur that is so thick that if it gets wet it will never dry. So, instead of bathing in water they roll around in dust to remove dirt from their fur.

2. In the wild, chinchillas are native to the Andes mountains, chinchillas live in herds of up to 200 chinchillas.

I currently own 2 female chinchillas. They make amzing pets and oonce you get to know them they are very rewarding as well. They are fairly simple to take care of and their cages don't stink.

There are two main defense features a chinchilla has apart from it's teeth....When threatened a chinchilla may spray it's opponent with urine but once caught the chinchilla will spontaneously shed large amounts of it's fur which will irritate it's captor, the predator will stop to scratch the itch and the chinchilla will get away. Also chinchillas' fur is so dense, up to 60 hairs per follicle, that it is almost impossible for them to get parasites, this feature also makes them 'hypo-allergenic' as pets for people usually allergic to rabbits and such.
