A structured living setting is essential, along with supportive family members and/or aides, proper nutrition, walking exercise, provision of needed medications and transportation to needed medical appointments. Also, activities, games and hobbies help a great deal, as well. Education should be provided for (and special district schools often assist with this function).
Special needs is the politically correct term for someone who is mentally, emotionally, or physically challenged. In the past, hurtful people would say retarded.
It is the type of support typically required for most mildly retarded individuals.
You should talk to your doctor and your school district. They can advise you of programs for special needs children.
They need food, shelter, and a sense of purpose like other humans. Some are cared for by family. Others are cared for by organizations.
Mentally challenged, learning disabled, developmentally delayed, special needs, learning delayed,...or simply disabled. Retarded and slow are demeaning.
When someone is described as mentally challenged, it typically means they have intellectual disabilities that may affect their cognitive functioning, problem-solving skills, and ability to learn at the same pace as their peers. It is a term used to describe individuals with limitations in intellectual and adaptive functioning.
William Joseph McBreen has written Elderly Mentally Retarded in Nursing Homes: Analysis of Heath Care Needs and Critical Nursing Interventions.
they have server mental problems and needs to see a doctor.
Mentally disabled people are not able to think logically about things like dieting. They know that food tastes good, and they want it. It is hard for them to plan ahead and think that eating too much might make them fat. Think of them as very large toddlers, and you will get along better. If a toddler, or a mentally disabled person, needs to lose weight, the best way is just not to have extra food around. If they know the food is there, they will be unhappy and want it.
In order to be emotionally, mentally, and socially healthy, it is important to prioritize self-care, maintain positive relationships, seek support when needed, engage in activities that bring joy and fulfillment, and practice mindfulness techniques such as meditation or deep breathing. It is also important to set boundaries, communicate effectively, and take time for rest and relaxation to help maintain overall well-being.
Special needs can also be physical due to missing limbs, blind, or deaf. Or it can be hyperactivity.
Simply they killed them because they thought they were possessed by the devil or they were broken. Sometimes they actually "tried" to cure them by putting them on something and spinning them really fast to spin the retardation out of them. But now we actually know a lot more about why they are this way. So now we treat them nicer and tend to there special needs and they try to make them a little smarter. Back then it was best to ship the kid off to a live in school for 2 reasons. 1 because it was a great embarrassment to the family and 2 because they were uneducated on how to care for a mental retarded person. Of course our views changed because people now know how to take care of a family member with mental retardation and most are no longer embarrassed to raise a mentally retarded child.
