There are many types of animals that can be found in a backyard but to determine what sort of animals there are your location would be needed. Most of these animals are find in Australian backyards:
- magpies pica pica
- sparrows passer domesticus
- skinks tiliqua scincoides
- worms phylum annelida
etc.
It depends on the country. In Australia's eastern states you would typically find magpies, bandicoots, lorikeets and skink lizards. Pet dogs, cats, guinea pigs and caged birds may also be found. In bushier suburbs, there would be blue-tongue lizards, and even brown snakes. There would always be plenty of Spiders and insects, also.
Insects (flying or crawling) flourish by the thousands for a (relatively) short period of time. A variety of birds, such as mockingbirds, prey upon them. Small mammals, such as cats, opossums, and raccoons may prey upon birds. If the bird is a type that nests on or near the ground, dogs, may raid those nests. And so the food chain develops. Depending upon where in the world your backyard is located, and the time of the year, you may find worms or grubs in the soil.
