The pilgrims wanted to be free form the king's rule. They wanted to be able to practice their own religion since they had different views of God.They also wanted to have better lifes in America and betters jobs for there familys

There were two main reasons. The first was that they left for America to avoid being persecuted because of their religion (Puritan). The second was the notion of a clean slate, of endless opportunities. England was cramped and dirty and bad for the common folk during that time, so America offered hope for a better life.
