The mitral or bicuspid valve and the tricuspid valve are the atrioventricular valves that control the flow of blood from the atria to the ventricles. The bicuspid is on the left side of the heart, and the tricuspid on the right.

Cuspid valves are right and left atrioventricular (AV) valves.
The general term would be atrioventricular valves or AV valves. There are two of these valves: the one on the right side is known as the tricuspid valve and the one on the left is known as the mitral valve.
During heart contraction
The valves of the heart open when blood is flowing through, allowing it to move from one chamber to another. The atrioventricular valves open to allow blood to flow from the atria to the ventricles, and the semilunar valves open to allow blood to flow out of the heart into the arteries.

The atrioventricular valves are held in place by the chordea tendeae. These tendons are chord like structures that stiffen to close the valve.
