There are six simple machines:
Inclined Plane
Wedge
Screw
Pulley
Wheel
Lever
The two classes of simple machines are:
1. The simple machines that deal with vector quantities like velocity and force
(the inclined plane, the wedge and the screw).
2. The simple machines that deal with torque (the force to rotate an object around an axis, pivot, etc.) like the pulley, the wheel, the lever.
You would think a screw falls into the torque class, but it's classified as a helical inclined plane.
The two major categories of simple machines are
1) Lever Family
a) Lever
b) Pulley and
c) Wheel and axle
2) Incline Plane Family
a) Incline plane
b) Screw and
c) Wedge
This two are the major groups pf simple machines, for more detail you may write me on psiwakoti1@gmail.com
Inclined Plane, Lever and Pulley are basic
Screw is an inclined plane on a spiral.
Wedge is like an inclined plane
wheels are also considered machines
screw jack Car is a simple machine mechanically .Is a simple machine mechanical pulley. Tailoring scissors with a cutting machine is mechanically simple.
If they work together, it's called a compound machine.

A compound machine.
A complex machine is a machine that is made up of two or more simple machines. Examples: Pencil sharpener, Washing machine, Wheelbarrow
The two simple machines are a lever and a fulcrum.

When simple machines work together, that forms a compound machine.

Complex machines are made out of multiple simple machines like axels, levers and pulleys make up a catapult on wheels.
A complex machine.
They are called compound machines. :)Hope that helps
