Two kinds of skin markings are... 1. Scars - Scar tissue forms over or in place of skin, usually when there is a cut that scabs over, needs stitches, or is along a certain way with the skin. Scars are pretty much permanent, except for treatments like lasers, creams, ect. which can help to minimize their appearence. Scars can fade or grow smaller as time passes, especially if it is a child growing into an adult. Scars are usually white, or a shade or so paler than the skin, but can also appear red, pink, or with tinges of purple on the skin. 2. Freckles / Moles - These are small black, brown, or tan spots along the skin. They can varry in size from almost invisible to the size of a pencil eraser and vary in shades from almost flesh-toned to very dark. Some moles can even be 3-D and be raised slightly. Both are cause by many different things. Some people are born with them. They can develop from the sun (as pigment in the skin changes) and with factors of the melanin changing in the skin. Most appear on the face, arms, chest, and back, but freckles and moles can really appear anywhere on the body.
