The polar bear walks with its heel and sole touching the ground. It has five sharp, curved claws on each foot for grasping ice and holding prey. Long hair between the pads protects its feet from the cold and provides traction on the ice. Stiff hairs on the forelegs and very broad front feet help the bear swim. Polar bears are white during the winter, providing camouflage when on the ice or in snow covered terrain, although their fur may turn yellowish in the summer.

Another the special thing about the polar bear is that they are endangered due to melting ice in the Arctic, and their skin is black underneath their white fur.

∙ 6y agoPolar bears appear white, but rather each individual hairs are translucent, hollow strands that trap energy from the sun and are reflected to us as white. They have black skin underneath that "white" fur. They have broad, flat paws with five curved claws designed to pick apart a seal to get the best parts of that seal--or whale. They have a large, broad head, black nose and eyes, small ears and eyes, and no hump unlike the grizzly/alaskan brown bear.
They are the largest species of all bears, males weighing under a ton and stretching at least 8 or 9 feet from nose to tail. They are natural predators, more carnivore than omnivore due to their diet of seals, walrus and whales hunted during the long winter mounths. a
