The early Roman empire lasted longer than the empire that was started by Alexander the great because there was more support. With more people, and more support, an Empire is trusted more, and can last longer.

Because they were less knowledgeable and far more superstitious than most people today. In addition they were kept in fear by the churches and those in power.

Old people are more religious than young people. This is because they know more than the young.
yes
NO. Religous people have more to be afraid of than non religious people. This is an extremely interesting question, and I bet that it has been studied. I'll see what I can locate. At the very least, it would be very difficult to define "religious" and "non-religious", but once that is done, some careful examination would bring things to light. More than likely, there would be many, many different approaches to the definitions, and this would have to be spelled out along with any results. For example, Fundamentalist Christians would have a very different set of definitions from Buddhists, Roman Catholics, Jews or Muslims.
Parents and superstitious people are two intersecting but not overlapping sets. Not all parents are superstitious. Not all superstitious people are parents. In truth, kids tend to be more superstitious than their parents.Parents are people. Some people are superstitious. Some of those superstitious people are parents.A lot of people are NOT superstitious. A lot of those non-superstitious people are parents. The parents who are superstitious are superstitious for pretty much the same reasons that anybody is superstitious:People sometimes conflate coincidence with causation: I did "A" and "B" happened, therefore A caused B.People don't know why things happen so they come up with superstitions to explain the unknown. Some superstitions are more a matter of tradition and culture than actually believing that something will or won't happen based on what we do or don't do. We observe the superstition because it is FUN, not because we really believe in it.Note that what some people call faith or experience, unbelievers can call superstition. A quote from Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens) illustrates this when it comes to parents: "When I was a boy of 14, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be 21, I was astonished at how much the old man had learned in seven years."... substitute the word "superstitious" for "ignorant" and the point is made.
In Roman numerals D = 500 so 8 more than D = 508, which in Roman numerals is DVIII.
Religious clashes between the Protestants and Catholics
It means one more than twelve just the same as it does everywhere else and for superstitious people everywhere it is considered to be unlucky.
