The purpose of the vent on the furnace is to ventilate flue gases out side of the house.
A lot will depend on where you have the furnace installed as you must have a chimney to carry the smoke outside. There is the cost of the furnace itself which must be sized properly so that it can heat the entire space. You must have the chimney or flue cleaned every year and other maintenance must be performed regularly - like removing the ashes. You must have enough wood to burn to heat the space you have in mind for the entire winter.
You survived the incident. Flues are not air tight, so some of the carbon monoxide went up the chimney. There was probably enough air movement to keep the concentration down, at least for the length of time it was happening. You probably had the furnace on also and that helped. Do it all night, and you might wake up dead in the morning.
It would be Non-Existent. All Flue gases would be ventilated and thusly removed.

Of course If the flue is sized properly

pvc flue pipe and has a condensate drain
In a furnace large amount of the heat supplied is wasted in the form of exhaust or flue gases.. that s called as heat loss in a furnace..
The air flow up your chimney that carries the products of combustion (flue gases) out of your house.
If both fireplace and furnace are BOTH gas, if the flue has the correct size, AND if your building code permits, yes. If furnace and fireplace are different fuels, no. Check with your local building inspection department.
if it's a 90 % furnace you may have a flue or intake air problem or a bad pressure switch make sure you are venting the flue gases and the fresh air intake is clear
There is no difference. They both refer to the product that leaves a furnace post combustion
the correct answer is a chimney
