Violin sholder rest are really important.
You need it so you won't get a sore neck
like my orchestra teacher @ school.
for the violin
I believe by this you mean a shoulder pad-which is place under the violin so that the violin rests comfortably on the shoulder. It is used by professionals to make it easier to hold up the instrument.
Shoulder Rests are a great way to keep your shoulder comfortable when you are playing the violin... BUT are optional. You can use the violin with or without one, but some people find using a shoulder rest more comfortable then not using one, and vice versa. So, In conclusion, you are not required to use a shoulder rest.
a shoulder rest is an attachment
If there is space, the shoulder rest should fit under the neck of the violin. If not, then it will probably fit on the side of the neck. If this still doesn't work, then just carry the shoulder rest separately.
Most do, but some don't. Many violinist use Shoulder Rests to keep the violin off their collar bone, yet in the right position to play without them slouching over their violin.
you hold a violin by the far end of the neck with your left hand, unless you have a left-handed violin, then it's right. you set the violin on your shoulder, with your chin resting on the left hand side of the violin, again, unless you own a left-handed violin.
You hold a cello between your knees, whereas you hold a viola/violin between your chin and shoulder.
Yes, the viola ones are bigger since the viola is bigger.
The violin and viola rests on the shoulder with the chin resting on it. You use a bow on all of these instruments.
Just find one that fits the violin shape, and slots for one or two bows. Also find pockets for rosin, and other items used for the violin, like a shoulder rest.
The viola is held in between your chin and left shoulder. Same as a violin :)
