A police car chasing you would be at a constant distance from you. If it was moving away, the siren sound would get lower and lower, instead of remaining at the same pitch.
Sounds get higher in pitch as they get closer, due to the sounds waves getting packed closer together. (Which IS higher-pitched) Sounds get lower in pitch as they go away, due to the sound waves being pulled farther apart than normal. (Which IS lower-pitched). This is called the Doppler effect, and works with light, also.
Big winter storms from far away create big winter waves.
All waves transfer energy. If your on a beach and the tide drags your ball away.
Sound waves move away from the source of energy, but other sorts of waves move perpendicular (at a right angle) to the energy source
ocean waves but not a small stream
Waves are energy carried by the water, and this energy pounds away at rocks on the shore, eventually wearing them down. Sediment is carried back into the water by the receding waves. As the waves come to shore again, the sediment acts like sandpaper, slowly wearing away at the shoreline.
sediment is the answer.
The ocean's waves have washed away the rock over many years.
This is due to the Doppler Effect. The Doppler Effect explains how a source of sound, in this case the siren, is catching up with the sound waves it emits. The space between waves is consequently shorter. This produces a higher frequency sound. As the source passes you, it is speeding away from the sound waves. The waves are spread further apart, thus producing a lower frequency.
It is the stormy waves of the sea that wears away the foot of the cliffs, often picking up boulders to hammer at the rock face.
A wave erodes a sea cliff through a process called hydraulic action. When a wave crashes against the base of a cliff, it creates immense pressure that forces air into cracks and joints in the rock. This repeated pressure and release weakens the rock, causing pieces to break off and cliff to gradually erode over time.
a lower-pitched sound

Wearing away of rocks is called weathering.
Because gradually over time the cliff erodes (wears away) and if you live on the cliff then to put it simply your house will gradually fall off the cliff.
Erosion~ The prosses know as weathering breaks up rocks so they can be carried away by the process know as erosion.Water, wind, ice, and waves are the agents of erosion that wear away the surface of the Earth.
