  3. Retreating into denial or other defense mechanisms.
  4. An important and frequently overlooked possibility: apologize for a wrongdoing that was intended or inadvertent that was part of the origin of the problem.
  5. Sometimes, and it takes uncanny wisdom to know when, a good approach is to wait. don't take this as an option to avoid other strategies that make immediate sense.
