Alter Metal is a cross genre between Grunge/ Alternative and Heavy Metal. Anter Metal and Alternative Metal are different in many ways, such as Alter Metal bands have a grungy look to them. And Alter Metal leans more towards Grunge/ Alternative, and Alternative Metal is more Heavy Metal.

Chevelle is considered an Alternative band. Chaos Killed is a smaller band, without a label. Breaking Benjamin is a Rock/Metal/Alt Metal band.
Evanescence is Alternative Rock. The band is often misclassified as metal due to other projects of the band members and by bands they have stated as their favorite who are of the metal genre. Evanescence however is NOT metal but Alternative rock.

Screamo, Alternative, and Heavy Metal are three very different musical styles. Maybe you need to decide which one you're looking for. Don't know offhand if any bands are looking... you can your local Craigslist, or perhaps the forums at Sonic Cathedral (see related link below).
No. You Me At Six are most certainly not heavy metal. I would say they are more Alternative. If you are looking for heavy metal, you should look at bands such as Bullet For My Valentine, Avenged Sevenfold, Slipknot, Atreyu etc.

The Rev admitted in a Modern Drummer Magazine interview that he was raised on stuff like rock and metal.
