an ordinance known asthe northwest
The Northwest Ordinance refers to a historical law passed by the United States Congress in 1787. It established guidelines for the governance and settlement of the Northwestern Territory, which included the area that is now the states of Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, and Wisconsin. The ordinance outlined principles such as the protection of individual rights, the prohibition of slavery, and the process for admitting new states to the Union.
It established the process for how the U.S. would expand westward.
The Northwest ordinance was an agreement that in the territories to the Northwest would not have any slavery. The Mason Dixon line was also created, it was a line that separated the North from the South just above Maryland. The Northwest Ordinance of 1787 claimed that new slaves could not be in the territory above this line.

In order to become a state, they needed at least 60,000 people living in the state, a state constitution that has to be passed by congress, and a representative for the state. In order to become a territory, they needed 10,000 people living in the territory, along with boundaries, and they can send someone to congress, however they cannot vote until they become a state. You can just copy this if you want NO COPY RIGHTS: In my opinion the most important element was that it protected civil liberties and required that public education be provided. If this was not here, many children would have had no education and our economy would have gotten no where at that time, and it just made our community stronger.
the northwest ordinance of 1787 affeted education by stating that it shall forever be encouraged in the territories and that a certain percentage of all sales within the territories shall go to fund public schooling within the territory. this, however led to an extremely loccalized standard of shool funding. a poor area, which doesn't sell much would have a much poorer(and lower standards) school than a merchant hub which has a better funded school.
The Northwest Ordinance of 1787 contained many acts. Act number 6 in the law specifically outlawed slavery and involuntary servitude.
There are few things significant about the Northwest Ordinance of 1787. First, it established the ability of the U. S. government to expand westward. Next, it set a precedent for admitting new states into the union as opposed to expanding existing states. Finally, it prohibited slavery in the territory, thus creating the Ohio River as the boundary for slavery.
slaves was forbidden in the area
There was a education law that predates 1785 so they followed the existing law. It was passed in 1635 and maintained when a area reached a specific population it would have a public school.
