It depends on your own point of view. He is seen by Spanish people as a traitor; by religious people as a heretic and by many conservative people as a sacrilegious man: He led the revolt that eventually became the War of Mexican Independence, he was a priest who was against many of the Catholic church's interests in Mexico and also had several children with at least two women (Catholic priests are supposed to maintain a celibacy vote).

At the end, he was a very human person with his own strengths and weaknesses.
