This is actually a matter of musical taste. Some will immediately chime in with "Michael Jasckson," who clearly was a staple of 80's music. Then there are the people who never listened to that style of music and prefered the likes of Metalica (who formed in 1981) Guns N' Roses, Meat Puppets, etc. Furthermore, there were people that were into bands like The Cure, Depeche Mode, Men at Work, Flock of Seagulls, etc. As far as generating money, I would bet on Michael Jackson, but that doesn't take into account the country artist, early rap artist, or metal artist.
Micheal Jackson with three of his biggest song released then like Billie Jean, Thriller and Beat it his popularity grew.with this he took 8 grammes in one night on February 28 1984.he was the undisputed "King of Pop"

"The best selling 80s tee is the Transformer shirt. The Charlie Brown shirt is also extemely popular. Many 80s tees based upon movies are also good sellers, such as the Ghostbusters shirt."
That would be Michael Jackson with Thriller! It is also the biggest selling album of all time!

Yes, Of course. In the 80's, Michael Jackson was the biggest star on Earth. After his release of Thriller which became the biggest selling album of all time he released Bad, the second biggest selling album of all time. He defined the 80's and in my opinion he defined music. He also received the artist of the decade (80's) award and later was awarded the artist of the century award.
