The replacement battery for the Luminox Navy Seals watch is an SR57. Equivalent battery models are the LR57, SR927, LR927, SR927W, GR927, AG7, SG7, and generic Enercell numbers 195/395/399. It measures 9.4 mm diameter x 2.6 mm thick, and generates 1.5 V.
I have replaced my own Luminox Navy Seals watch battery with no problems. Luminox says that the warranty is voided if you don't have the work done by a certified dealer, but my watch is so old that I don't care about that.
Procedure for replacing the Luminox Navy Seals watch battery:
Work in good light. Using a flip-down magnifier with a headband is helpful but not essential unless you don't have sharp close-up vision.
Use a jeweler's Philips-style screwdriver to remove the four back-plate screws. Put them aside where they can't be lost. As you lift the back plate, be careful not to damage or lose the delicate rubber-gasket O-ring that rests beneath it; leave it in its groove if possible.
When removing the battery itself, be careful of the thin, round perforated metal ring that rests on the upper, outer edge of the battery. Note the orientation of the battery; the side that is completely flat, with markings on it, must face upward (--toward-- you) when it rests inside the watch.
After putting the new battery into place, and when replacing the back plate, be sure that the O-ring gasket lies flat and undistorted in its recessed groove as you delicately press the plate down. The battery itself, with its overlying metal ring, should seat down smoothly, without resistance, as you press the back-plate into position.
It is advisable to just slightly tighten the screws one-by-one as all four are put in place. When all four are in place, tighten them down completely. Snug them firmly but don't over-tighten them.
Again, it's not hard to replace the battery in this watch. Just be careful and methodical as you proceed.
While I was there in the 70s, we wore the Rolex Oyster.
Luminox makes the watch that is used by the navy seals, if its good enough for them, im sure it will last a long time.
There are several places one can purchase a Luminox Navy Seal watch. These retailers include Amazon, NY Watch Store, Watch Co, and Tactical Distributors.
No, not since 1994, when we tested the watch out and found that it flooded after a couple weeks of diving as shallow as 25 feet. The watch is too bright for tactical operations, and is analog, where most of our guys where a digital watch because of its more precise timing. The most common issued watches are Suunto and G-Shock, but it is largely up to personal preference.
Before, then U.S. Navy Seals, were who they are, they were classified UDT - or - Underwater Demolition Team. I don't know when they officially became Seals. JFK authorized the formation of the SEALS.
