Open the key fob up and look see what battery it contains. Buy that exact battery.

I have a jeep 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee and found this answer on this site under programing a 1995 jeep Grand Cherokee. Its a very good description uses the same FOB.
I just saw a post that said to take out the little key, insert a small flathead screw driver into the fob, and it should pop apart to allow battery replacement.

It's not that the key fob stopped working, but, if your car battery is dead, it's the car that has no power to pop the door locks.
Time for a new battery in the fob.
Remove the valet key from the fob and behind it is a small Phillips screw. After that the fob will split and the battery is visible.
