The Battle of Gettysburg, I just read it in my history book.
Gettysburg
Based on the success of calvary charges during the Mexican American War, military leaders on both sides of the US Civil War were of the opinion that tactical offensive charges by calvary units would be effective. There were enough successful calvary charges against infantry troops on both sides, to cause them to continue throughout the war. With that said, cavalry charges were not the backbone of plans for a successful battle. They were used with caution, but yes, they were a part of many battles.
The Battle of Gettysburg, on June 30th 1863, when the Union cavalry division led by general Buford succeeded in occupying The McPherson Ridge short before the coming up Confederate Infantry Brigade led by general Pettigrew. The Confederates was taken aback and suddenly stopped by the very effective fire of the Northerners repeating carbines, retreated.
The battle of D-Day began with parachute and glider landings at midnight on 6 June. Almost 30,000 soldiers landed by prachute and gliders and the German armies were totally surprised
While not entirely accurate, this approximates the way the battle of Gettysburg began. Gettysburg was selected as a location for the fight by Robert E Lee because of the excellent road network there. Lee's soldiers had raided many of the nearby towns and hoped to force Gettysburg to give them a warehouse full of shoes and boots. They were surprised by the presence of a Union cavalry company when they had only expected a few untrained militia. They did not know that nearly 100,000 Union soldiers were within one day of arriving at the scene.

The battle of Passchendaele (also known as the third battle of Ypres) began on 21st May 1917 with a bombardment of the German trenches on the Messines Ridge. On 7th June 1917 mines were exploded under Messines Ridge and the infantry attack was launched.

Julius Caesar's death. At least that was the root cause. After Caesar's death there was a power struggle which ultimately ended up with Octavian and Antony facing off against each other. They fought at Actium where Octavian won.
