It reduces the overlap between two gears making for a shorter, quicker shift. This reduces clutch wear and heat. Normally line pressure will be raised slightly and you end up with a quick firm shift that is healthier for the trans.
ok the best way you are going to solve this problem is to install a longer transmission shifter. this is also not an expensive fix. i am surprised the extension didnt come with the lift kit, assuming a lift KIT was used and not just a put together lift
Yes you can remove a manual transmission and replace it with an automatic. You will need to buy an aftermarket shifter kit of find a shifter for your vehicle from a junk yard. You will also either have to remove the clutch pedal or replace the pedal assembly
shifter bushing has been worn out. should be able to repair under the car.maybe Civic Shifter Bushing Kit-Energy Susp #16-1101r

Your shifter assembly is just shot. Happens to most older ford/mercury shifters. There is a shifter rebuild kit available online...usually Ebay, that sells for about $85 that will fix it. It comes with a new link, some plastic and rubber bushings etc. and can be easily installed from under the car. Look for a shifter rebuild kit. To prevent this from hapening again DO NOT DRIVE with your hand ON THE SHIFTER! Use it only to shift!
You can get them on e bay.
is there a complete kit for a 4L60E transmission to work right in a non computer car? l put a new 355ci crate engine with a carburetor in my 94' silverado with a 4L60E transmission but now the transmission is working properly, it only has drive & reverse no 1st or over drive is there a electrical kit that l can need to plug that transmission into & where can l purchase it?
no not if have shift kit in transmission that it want mess up
Check the condition and adjustments of the shifter assembly under the console. The for-and-aft movement of the shifter handle controls the selection of 1st vs. 2nd, 3rd vs. 4th and 5th vs. Reverse. If the cable is out of adjustment or broken you can select only the "upper" or "lower" gears. Excessive component wear could cause this too. My '93 GSI lost the clip that held one cable to the transmission. I could get 1st sometimes, but mostly it would stay in 3rd. Again, check the shifter cables and the condition of things under the shifter boot.
