The Japanese used mini-submarines. Very small submarines housing only a few men. The attack on Pearl Harbor itself was mostly an air raid.
There were five mini subs that launched in total. It is believed that only two actually entered the harbor and that only one released a torpedo.
No, however some Japanese pilots that were shot down or damaged tried to crash their aircraft into something important.
The Japanese knew that the United States was on the verge of entering World War II so they tried to delay the US making an impact by hoping to destroy the US's Aircraft Carrier's that would normally be stationed at Pearl Harbor. Fortunately the carriers were not there during the attack, however Japan did sever a blow by sinking and destroying battleships and cruisers that were berthed there.
During the attack on Pearl Harbor the U.S.S Nevada tried to make a run for it but they were damaged and too close to the harbor entrance to make it without blocking all passage in or out of the harbor. They chose to ground near the hospital to keep the harbor entrance open and have a chance to save the ship.
The United States. They knew. They did not know how soon it would happen
USS Nevada; later sunk in the Pacific as a target.
Yes. Even before Pearl Harbor Roosevelt tried to provoke Germany by escorting British ships around Europe. Roosevelt had numerous advisors who were very upset when Hitler came to power and kicked the Jews out of Germany and were determined to get America thrown into the war.
To carry out the orders given to them by their commanders. US Commanders tried to destroy Japanese airplanes; Japanese Commanders tried to sink warships.
General Hideki Tojo was both the chief of the Japanese Army and the Prime Minister of Japan. The December 7, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor was mostly his decision. After Japan's surrender, Tojo was taken in to custody by American forces. Tojo attempted suicide by shooting himself with a pistol, but he missed his heart and survived. He was tried for war crimes, and executed by hanging in December 1948.
I'm not sure if you tried this, but you could try wikipedia. Hope I helped!
Because we had absolutely no reason to expect it. Michael Montagne You might want to read up a little on the history or Pearl Harbor. There was every reason to expect an attack was coming. The night before when "magic" intercepted a 14 point message to their diplomat Roosevelt declared "this means war". He predicted we would be at war before the next monday. Also before this, magic had intercepted and decoded many messages hinting at an attack at pear harbor. Look up the "bomb plot" information where spies were asked to divide the harbor into sections, label all ships when they were in port, when they berthed next to one another etc. There are many, many examples of hints of war. All you have to do is look it up.
They tried to catch us off guard and take us by suprise(whitch didn't work for them in the long run)
Well lets see. Japan Bombs Pearl Harbor, a US military installation, so we retalitiated with Japan, who was already in the war. So the U.S. then dropped nukes on Japan then ended the war, because we are the shiznit.
