Distal sigmoid colon is the last segment of your colon before the rectum begins. The colon segments (in order from proximal to distal) are: ascending, transverse, descending, sigmoid.
A sigmoidoscopy of the colon and biopsy of the area about 7 inches from the end of the anus have tested positive for cancerous cell growth. A surgeon will remove the cancerous section of the bowel and other treatments for stopping any new growth will be considered.
Surgery is the very first treatment after colon cancer positive diagnosis. Surgery is done to remove the cancerous growths from colon or rectum. For the cancer diagnosis at advance stages other treatments like chemotherapy and radiation therapy can be given along with surgery.
The transverse colon is the part of the large intestine which connects the ascending and descending colon. It is in the abdominal cavity.

Some treatments for colon cancer can include surgery (colectomy) to remove cancer cells, chemotherapy, and or radiation therapy to remove dangerous cancerous tissues.
It usually starts in the distal colon - the rectum, but can involve all the colon (large bowel).
